Exciting Bikes 4 Orphans Update!!!
We are thrilled to announce that we will be donating 20 bicycles to the the Matungu Community Development Charity. This community organization is located in Kenya and will be the 8th orphanage we are donating to.
The Matungu Community Development Charity, directed by Vincent Atitwa, also works with Evans Okumu who provides bicycles to girls in need, so they can use the bicycles to go to school, to work, and other important places. There are 50 girls in their program, but not enough bicycles. Bikes 4 Orphans will be donating 20 bicycles to the Matungu Community Development Charity, so we can make sure all the girls have bicycles.
According to Vincent Atitwa, "Girls from this community have to walk up to three miles to school each day in Kenya, leaving them vulnerable to abuse, rape, kidnapping and harassment along the way. With these risks, many girls simply don’t go to school, especially those who live in poor, rural areas where our project is based. This educational void then cascades into a variety of ills like domestic violence, teen pregnancy and child marriage to name just a few. The project plans to open up freedom and opportunities to these young women, by giving girls what has been traditionally reserved for boys and men — bicycles."
The bicycles will be arriving next month. Below are pictures of some of the girls with their current bicycles.
